Miami 5.0L Engine Background
The Ford / FPV Miami V8 was developed in Australia using Ford’s 5.0L Coyote architecture as its base.
The Miami engine was specifically engineered for supercharged Falcon and FPV applications and combined:
- 5.0L displacement
- Aluminium block construction
- DOHC cylinder heads
- Four valves per cylinder
- Variable cam timing
- Factory supercharging
- Lower compression ratio than many naturally aspirated Coyote variants
The result was a durable and highly capable performance engine used in some of the most desirable Australian-built Ford performance vehicles.
Cylinder Head Compatibility
This short engine is based around the Gen 1 Coyote / Miami architecture.
Original Miami or compatible Gen 1 cylinder heads are the preferred option for a straightforward replacement-style build.
Some later Coyote cylinder head combinations may be possible, but they can require careful attention to:
- Head gasket selection
- Oil feed passages
- Timing components
- Cam timing hardware
- Valve clearance
- Piston-to-valve clearance
- Cooling system configuration
- ECU and calibration requirements
Gen 2 or Gen 3 cylinder heads should not be assumed to be a direct bolt-on replacement without confirming the complete engine combination.
For custom combinations, contact Bullet Performance Racing before purchasing components.
Suitable For Standard and Performance Builds
A Miami short engine can be used as the basis for:
- Standard engine replacement
- Factory-style restoration
- Supercharged street builds
- Performance engine upgrades
- Modified FG / FG X Falcon builds
- Custom Coyote conversions
The final suitability depends on the intended power level, cylinder heads, supercharger configuration, fuel system, engine management and tuning.
For higher-output applications, additional upgrades may be recommended depending on the engine specification and target power.
Availability
Currently Out of Stock – Please Enquire
Bullet Performance Racing does not currently have these Miami short engines in stock.
New genuine or suitable replacement short engines have become increasingly difficult to source.

Please do not place an online order without first confirming availability with Bullet Performance Racing.
Rebuilding Your Existing Miami Engine
If a replacement short engine is unavailable, rebuilding the original Miami engine may be the better option.
Depending on the condition of the existing engine, rebuild options may include:
- Block inspection and machining
- Crankshaft inspection
- Replacement bearings
- Replacement pistons
- Replacement connecting rods
- Forged internal upgrades
- Oil pump upgrades
- Timing system inspection
- Cylinder head inspection
- Supercharger inspection
- Engine assembly
- ECU calibration and tuning
Bullet Performance Racing can assist with planning a suitable Miami engine combination based on the vehicle, intended use and target power level.
Before Enquiring
To help us determine the most suitable option, please provide:
- Vehicle model
- Build year
- VIN
- Current engine specification
- Current engine fault or damage
- Existing modifications
- Supercharger configuration
- Fuel type
- Intended power level
- Street, race or mixed-use application
This information allows us to determine whether a replacement Miami short engine, engine rebuild or alternative Coyote-based combination is the best solution.
Important Compatibility Note
Ford Miami and Coyote engines have several generation-specific differences.
Engine blocks, cylinder heads, timing components, oiling systems, sensors and ECU strategies can vary between generations.
Always confirm compatibility before combining components from different Coyote or Miami engine families.
Bullet Performance Racing can assist with engine identification, compatibility, diagnostics and tuning for Australian Ford Miami applications.
