Designed for compatible pre-2005 Ford EEC-IV and EEC-V ECUs, the F3V3 installs directly onto the ECU J3 service port and allows a custom calibration to replace or modify the factory ECU program.

Original F3 / Version 1

The original Moates F3 was the first-generation Ford J3 chip adapter.

It allowed the factory Ford EEC calibration to be replaced with a custom tune and supported two program positions using an external switching input.

The original F3 became a popular tuning solution for Ford EEC-IV and EEC-V vehicles before eventually being superseded by later hardware.

F3V2 – Version 2

Introduced as the replacement for the original F3, the F3V2 significantly expanded the available functionality.

Major improvements included:

IMPORTANT – F3V3 Programmer Firmware Requirement

The new Moates F3V3 uses updated programming support compared with previous F3 and F3V2 chips.

For compatible BURN2 and Jaybird programmers, Moates specifies:

• 5.14.F – Legacy firmware for older F3 chips. Does not support F3V2 or F3V3.
• 5.16.F – Adds support for F3V2 chips.
• 5.18.F – Required for the newer F3V3 generation.

When programming an F3V3 using the supported Moates software and hardware configuration:

• Select F5 as the chip type
• Use Random Access Addressing when accessing the various switch/tune positions

Already Own a BURN2 or Jaybird?

If you are upgrading from an older F3 or F3V2 chip, check the firmware version of your programmer before attempting to program the F3V3.

Older programmers may require a firmware update before they can correctly identify and program Version 3 hardware.

Important Installation Information

The ECU J3 connector contacts must be completely clean before installation.

Contamination, protective coating or oxidation on the J3 contacts can prevent the chip from making a reliable electrical connection.

Carefully clean both sides of the ECU J3 service port before installing the chip.

Important

Always switch the vehicle completely OFF before installing or removing a J3 chip.

Installing or removing the chip while the ECU is powered may damage:

• The ECU
• Programming hardware
• Associated electronic components

Professional installation and calibration are recommended.
