Product Description
The Moates Jaybird J3 USB Chip Burner / Programmer is a compact, dedicated programming device designed for reading and writing compatible Moates F3 tuning chips used in Ford EEC-IV and EEC-V engine management systems.
Developed specifically for Ford J3 chip programming, the Jaybird provides a simple and cost-effective solution for professional ECU tuners, performance workshops and automotive enthusiasts who require reliable access to their custom calibration files.
Using a USB connection and compatible programming software, the Jaybird allows users to load custom ECU calibrations onto reusable Moates F3 J3 chips without requiring a full-featured universal EPROM programmer.
It is particularly suited to Australian Ford Falcon applications, including EA–EL and AU models fitted with compatible J3-equipped ECUs.
Key Features
- Dedicated Ford J3 Programmer: Specifically designed for Moates F3-series tuning chips.
- USB Connectivity: Connects directly to a compatible computer using a Mini-USB connection.
- Read & Write Capability: Read existing F3 chip contents, erase supported memory and program replacement calibration files.
- Reusable Tuning Chips: Reprogram compatible F3 modules multiple times.
- Multiple Software Options: Compatible with Moates Flash & Burn, TunerPro RT, Binary Editor and EEC Editor.
- Compact Design: Portable programmer suitable for workshop and bench-top use.
- No External Power Supply: Powered through the USB connection.
Ford Vehicle Applications
Suitable for programming compatible J3 tuning chips used in selected Ford EEC-IV and EEC-V engine management systems, including:
- Ford EA, EB, ED Falcon
- Ford EF and EL Falcon
- Ford AU Series I, II and III Falcon
- Ford Fairmont and Fairlane
- Ford XR6 and XR8
- Ford Mustang 5.0L equipped with compatible EEC systems
- Other Ford vehicles fitted with supported J3-port ECUs
Important: Vehicle compatibility depends on the installed ECU, J3 chip hardware, calibration strategy and software support. Not all vehicles or ECU strategies are supported.
Supported Software
The Moates Jaybird can be used with several established Ford ECU programming applications:
- Moates Flash & Burn
- TunerPro RT
- Binary Editor
- EEC Editor
Software, calibration definitions and licensing may be required separately.
Important Compatibility Information
The Jaybird is a dedicated Moates F3-series chip programmer.
It cannot read the original factory calibration directly from a Ford ECU, and it does not provide live datalogging, real-time ECU emulation or OBD diagnostic functions.
Reading original Ford ECU calibrations requires alternative compatible hardware, such as the Moates BURN2 with the appropriate F2A and F2E adapters.
Newer F3 chip revisions may require updated Jaybird firmware. Firmware compatibility must be confirmed before programming.
Professional ECU Tuning Applications
Ideal for:
- Custom Ford EEC-IV and EEC-V calibration programming
- Ford Falcon J3 performance chip preparation
- Reading and backing up existing Moates F3 chip files
- Reprogramming J3 chips after calibration revisions
- Workshop ECU tuning and calibration development
- Motorsport and off-road vehicle tuning applications
Important Disclaimer
The Jaybird is programming hardware only and does not include custom ECU calibration files unless expressly stated.
Incorrect calibration files, chip configuration, programming procedures or installation can result in ECU malfunction, vehicle starting problems or engine damage.
Customers must confirm ECU strategy, binary file compatibility, chip revision and programmer firmware before use.
Professional ECU tuning knowledge is recommended.
