Description
ARP Main Stud Kit with Side Bolts – Ford 5.0L Coyote / Miami – 156-5803
Improve bottom-end strength and main cap retention with the ARP 156-5803 Main Stud Kit with Side Bolts, designed for the Ford 5.0L Coyote V8 engine platform.
ARP developed this kit as a high-strength replacement for the factory main cap fasteners, providing increased clamping capability and long-term bottom-end security for performance engine applications.
The main studs are manufactured from heat-treated 8740 chrome moly steel and are rated at 190,000 psi tensile strength. This provides a substantial upgrade over the factory torque-to-yield fasteners used in the Coyote engine.
The Coyote’s cross-bolted main cap design requires both vertical main fasteners and horizontal side fasteners. The ARP 156-5803 kit provides the required 20 main studs together with 10 M9 side bolts, giving each main cap the additional lateral support required by the factory block design.
ARP also supplies precision-ground washers, 12-point nuts and ARP Ultra-Torque Fastener Assembly Lubricant with the kit.
For high-performance naturally aspirated, supercharged, turbocharged or competition engine builds, upgrading the main cap fasteners is an important step in improving bottom-end reliability and maintaining consistent main cap clamping under increased cylinder pressure and engine speed.
ARP 8740 Chrome Moly Main Studs
ARP manufactures the main studs from premium 8740 chrome moly steel.
The studs are heat treated and manufactured using ARP’s performance fastener production processes to achieve a nominal tensile strength of 190,000 psi.
ARP studs are designed to provide consistent and repeatable clamping force while offering considerably greater strength than factory torque-to-yield hardware.
Includes Side Bolts
The ARP 156-5803 kit includes the main cap side bolts required for the Ford Coyote cross-bolted main cap arrangement.
The kit contains:
- 20 x ARP main studs
- 10 x M9 main cap side bolts
- ARP 12-point nuts
- Parallel-ground / hardened washers
- ARP Ultra-Torque Fastener Assembly Lubricant
This makes 156-5803 a complete main cap fastening kit rather than a main-stud-only package.

Why Use ARP Main Studs?
The factory Coyote engine uses torque-to-yield main fasteners. These are designed to permanently stretch during the original tightening procedure and should not be treated as reusable performance fasteners.
ARP’s 8740 chrome moly main studs provide a stronger and more consistent fastening solution.
Studs also remain stationary in the block while the retaining nut is tightened. This reduces twisting of the primary fastener during final tightening and assists with achieving consistent main cap clamping.
This is particularly valuable in engines operating with:
- Increased boost pressure
- Higher cylinder pressure
- Increased engine speed
- Performance superchargers
- Turbocharger conversions
- Built short motors
- Competition use
- High-output street applications
Important Engine Machining Note
ARP advises that changing from factory fasteners to high-strength main studs changes the clamping force applied to the block.
The main bearing bores should therefore be checked for correct size and out-of-round condition after the studs have been installed and torqued.
The block should be align honed if required.
Where align honing is performed, ARP recommends using the same main fasteners, lubricant and specified preload that will be used during final engine assembly.
